For Robert’s project he built a 150 ft fence, laid down landscaping fabric and mulch around a sensory garden at
the Sweetbriar Nature Center located in Smithtown, New York. His project protects the garden from weeds, and
helps to reduce the work of maintaining the garden. The fence also stops people from accidentally walking on
the plants from outside the garden.
The Sweetbriar Nature Center is located on 54 acres of varied garden, woodland, field and wetland habitats on
the Nissequoque River. Hundreds of species of plants and animals make homes there. The Center exists to
provide natural science education services for Long Island residents and other visitors of all ages and to
engage all in native wildlife rehabilitation services.
